This is dumb. The solution is scaling back the AAU-type nonsense. Stars are playing too much before they hit college or makeshift semi-pro & pro leagues. it's too much wear and tear on their bodies
I think its actually the play style.
Old school players used to settle into a more back to the basket style of play as they got older.
Meanwhile modern players are doing stepback after stepback. Euro step after Euro step. There is no way going full speed in one direction and suddenly going in the opposite direction is good for you.

Tyrese does this shyt off every pump fake…

It’s this move combined with the type of shoes the players are wearing. He breaks it down at the 3:11 mark;

Edit:
Crazy that three people on the USA squad have had Achilles tears.

TYRONE GA!
Those hard pivots and changes of direction are hard on the body.

This big time. The guys back in the day weren't doing that shyt.

Combine that with the wear and tear of doing that shyt from an early age and the trainers these youngins have in addition to all of the AAU hoopin they do. It's just too much on dem joints man

The way guys rapidly stop and shift direction specifically is what does it. Ever watch the Bo Jackson 30 for 30? The part where he keeps running into the tunnel after a long touchdown run he specifically mentions that he did that because he thought he’d hurt himself if he tried to stop short so that he didn’t hit the wall behind the end zone.

On KRS One's nose, eating sunflower seeds.
I always felt NBA players ankles and feet were over taped. Too much tape could actually be ONE of the issues. The other issue may be that the types of workouts they do in the gym, those unnecessary like this cause more hurt than harm, in the long run. Overkill.

So you admit that an accumulation of [micro] injuries can actually led to Achillies tears due to a breakdown in the kinetic chain? You going on record to walking back your shyt about players not being conditioned enough?

Players are getting more of these types of injuries (like strained calves) because they're traveling more miles during a game than ever before. Players are getting more of these types of injuries (like strained calves) because they're moving at greater speeds than ever before.

Haliburton didn't strain his calf because he wasn't conditioned enough; Haliburton didn't tear his Achilles because he wasn't conditioned enough.
After all these years these buffoons will disagree with you only because you’re YOU.

Gil Scott Heroin makes a thread stating that a basketball is a sphere = these guys will start LOLing and fighting you that it’s just round and you’re making up some new analytics nerd terminology.

Frankly I don’t even know that it’s worth engaging with these gray haired 7th graders.

KG and Paul Pierce say players aren't in shape, don't practice properly, and don't do proper calf and ankle stretches.
