new promotion:

HOUSE OF HARDCORE

last night was the debut show, featuring EDGE. :king:

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- Hundreds upon hundreds of fans, sporting everything from ECW wear to newly purchased House of Hardcore shirts, filed into what Tommy Dreamer bills as the last traditional wrestling arena on Saturday afternoon and into the evening for the debut of Dreamer's brainchild promotion.

Line-ups for meet-and-greets stretched through the building as fans waited for an autograph, picture or handshake from their favourite superstars.

Former WWE superstar Adam (Edge) Copeland was a huge hit among fans, his line as far as the eye could see. When it shrunk, it grew again. Another former WWE superstar, Maryse, was also a huge hit among fans, particularly the, ahem, male crowd.

All of the House of Hardcore superstars were more than accommodating as the meet-and-greet sessions extended well beyond the allotted time. Among other superstars at the meet-and-greet were Jazz, Rhino, Mike Knoxx, Chris Mordetsky, Carlos Colon, Raven, Sami Callihan and others.

A lively crowd of all ages were full of life as the inaugural event opened.

By the end of it, they were exhausted, and deeply moved -- just like Dreamer, who delivered a passionate, teary-eyed speech to the crowd following his three-way bout with Mike Knoxx and Carlito the Body Guy Colon. Dreamer announced that there will be House of Hardcore 2 down the road.

The finale started out with the fans going wild for Dreamer, and he acknowledged the cheers -- including "F--- 'em up, Tommy!" Almost immediately, chaos began, with action outside the ring and kendo sticks swinging. While the crowd chanted for tables, a ladder came out and was broken. The requested table was next, and Dreamer drove Colon through one off the ring apron. In the end, Colon won after putting Dreamer into a ladder. With the win, Colon becomes the new FWE champion. The celebration was brief, however, as Raven, Dreamer's nemesis, arrived, followed by Sandman to even the odds. Chants of "Thank you, Tommy" and "H-O-H" rang as the evening concluded.

Here are the rest of the results and my thoughts from the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY:

I chatted with Big Daddy V for a bit. He talked to us about how nostalgic this building is -- it is one of the locations the WWWF and WWF used to tape its TV shows at -- and that its great to be back.

At the signings, Luke Gallows and Mike Knoxx were amazing with the fans, and Chris Masters was popular too. The VIP autograph signings extended past allotted time, meaning the show started a little later than planned.
In Match 1, Shawn Daivari defeated Crowbar, with the referee Kevin Keenan, formerly of WWE.

By the second match, featuring The FBI (Little Guido and Tony Mamaluke), with manager with Sal E. Graziano, vs Danny Doring and Roadkill, the crowd was pumped. Random chants of "E-C-W" were quickly replaced by "H-O-H" as performers paid homage to the new promotion. Danny and Roadkill win and the highlight was the ref (wrestler Scotty Charisma) delivering an armbar and pin to FBI mid-match.

Match 3 changed the pace, and had Jazz defeating Winter in a women's bout.
The fourth match highlighted some younger talent, as Alex Reynolds faced Tony Nese, with special guest referee Mikey Whipwreck. The amazing, brilliantly-booked bout got the crowd on its feet, particularly by the high-flying Nese. In the end, it was Nese with the win with and assist from Whipwreck.
Scott Steiner came out to talk on the microphone, and he took swipes at Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, until he was interrupted by Big XLG (Luke Gallows) and Eddie Kingston. An impromptu match starts between Big XLG and Steiner, which is a violent-ish affair that featured chairs and kendo stick, spent largely outside ring. It all concludes when Rick Steiner comes out mid-match and the Steiners hit dual Steinerlines on XLG.

There's a $500 cash prize up for grabs in Chris Mordetzsky's Masterlock Challenge. A guy was pulled from the crowd to take the challenge, which does not please the crowd, especially when he passes out. Hale Collins arrives to take the challenge, which morphed into a match which Mordetzsky won with an assist from a masked person.

Rhino vs. Sami Callihan was up next. The match started with major energy, and built from there. Callihan flew a lot, and Rhino endured the punishment. Outside the ring, chairs came into use. Callihan kicked out following a gore, which was an amazing moment that the crowd never saw coming. To finish off his smaller foe, Rhino hit Callihan with a Rhino Driver off top rope to win. This is a perfect example of someone getting over huge despite losing, so kudos to both warriors.

The next bout was more of a break than anything after the emotional roller coasters so far. In this one, Big Daddy V beat up some jobber in 25 seconds or so. Another opponent came out, and Big Daddy V took about a minute and a half with this one. The third foe, though, was Spike Dudley, who put up a valiant effort against the much bigger man, but still lost. The crowd went bananas in this one.

When it was announced that the semi-main event would have an hour time limit, it was a good indication that promoter Dreamer saw tons of potential for excitement as the Young Bucks faced Brian Kendrick and Paul London. But before the wild match started, Edge -- now going by Adam Copeland -- delivered a five-minute promo setting up the match and thanking the fans and Dreamer for everything. The match was expected to be the highlight match of night, but there were some tough acts to follow. It lived up to the billing, and was high-flying, insane and dangerous. The crowd gave them all a standing ovation, and Kendrick and London win.

Phew. As tired as the wrestlers were, I was pretty drained too.

Sounds fine, but I thought they would focus on new talent not re-hash old talent.

f4wonline.com on Edge's appearance:

Edge did a number of interviews and appearances to help promote Tommy Dreamer's House of Hardcore debut this past weekend. Those who talked with him said it was really too bad that he had to retire due to neck issues because he very clearly is super passionate about the business to the point that he almost surely would have kept wrestling and being involved until he just couldn't do it anymore. Dreamer's show, which drew a great crowd estimated at 2,000 fans, got rave reviews from pretty much everyone we heard from, both those in the business and fans. One person said, "I really think Tommy has something here and with everyone helping out, I can see this thing taking off. I mean he had a ton of names and I am sure that is what helped draw, but the show had something for everyone, and everyone left happy. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the guys have another place to work down the line. I think in 2013 he will really establish this as just not another indy company."

That would be incredible...if House of Hardcore became a new great indie company.

I still think it's funny that Matt Hardy got an appearance at Shane Douglas crap show and wasn't invited to Tommy Dreamer's House of Hardcore.

You know he was bangin' down that door.

Dreamer himself CANOE -- SLAM! Sports - Wrestling - Tommy Dreamer columns : Thank you, everyone, for bringing down the House:

If you have been reading this column recently, then you know that last weekend I held my debut wrestling show, House of Hardcore.

I’m thrilled to report it was probably the most fulfilling weekend that I've had during my career in a long time, because the show went better than I expected. I have been wrestling since 1989 and I have never seen a show that held such an amazing appeal to the masses. I received no negative feedback.

I personally did not see much of the show as it was taking place live, and I know I will watch the DVD and get overly critical, but that’s just the perfectionist in me. I can already think of a few things I would have changed, but, when the DVD arrives, I will just sit back and watch it from a fan’s perspective, because at the end of the day, that’s what I still am.

The event felt like a giant wrestling party I organized for myself and the fans. I had so many friends and loved ones in attendance and I am blessed to have that strong nucleus of people whom I can trust and know are there for me. I could fill this entire newspaper with people I want to thank individually, but instead, I thought of three categories and, if you are reading this and you fit into a category, I am addressing you directly.

First, I would like to thank the performers, each of whom exceeded my expectations, as well as the expectations of fans. You performed like it was your own WrestleMania. I chose you not because I like you, or have a personal relationship with you, but because I knew you would give everything you had at the show and make the fans happy. I chose you because of your work ethic. Everyone was very professional and went out of their way for the fans at the meet and greet.

I haven't received so much as one complaint about anything during the autograph session (and when you have Raven at a show and there are no complaints, that’s a damn miracle, haha) I also chose you because you have pride in what you do, self-respect and you care about how you are presented to the masses. Make no mistake, you delivered on the show because you have passion for wrestling. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Your hard work was very much appreciated.

Second, I would like to thank everyone behind the scenes (my staff). This show would never have gotten off the ground if it weren’t for all of you. You played such an integral part of the show. I wish the show would have made millions of dollars, because that’s what I wish I could have paid you. You are the unsung heroes. You went to battle for me and did not falter or skip a beat in the face of adversity (and my god was there adversity).

I know it seemed overbearing at times or confusing, but you did it and you pulled it off. You were at the show for one reason: I trust you. You were my eyes, ears and my problem-solvers. You were there for me when I needed you most; I gave you direction and you followed it to the letter or told me why it was better to do it your way.

A Mercedes looks amazing on the outside, but it is the engine that gets it going. You were my engine. House of Hardcore went nowhere without you.

Finally, I would like to thank the fans. We did it. For one night, we showed the wrestling world we want change. Your enthusiasm and crowd support was amazing. When I heard your “This is awesome!” chants, I had a smile from ear to ear.

When I heard the “HOH” chants, I got goosebumps. Thank you for wanting something different and please keep demanding and challenging other wrestling shows to be diverse. I have been cast out by the industry I love for, well, being different and expressing my opinion. I felt going into this show that I had one last real fight left in me and this was going to be it.

I was wrong.

You made me realize that there are others like me out there. Others who don’t want their intelligence insulted; others who want to be entertained; others who are proud to be, like me, a wrestling fan. I hope you feel you got your money’s worth at the show.

You enabled me to still believe and showed me that I have another major fight left in me (House of Hardcore 2 plug right there). Seriously, without you, there is no me.

If (Stone Cold) Steve Austin can coin the phrase “What?” “What?” “What?” and Daniel Bryan has “Yes!” “Yes!” “Yes!” then let Tommy Dreamer’s be “Thank You!” “Thank You!” “Thank You!”

I am eternally grateful. Thanks for restoring my faith.

And thanks for reading.
