Police confiscated nine handguns and 14 rifles.

An anonymous tip this week led police to a Northwest Miami-Dade home where they say a father and son were dealing a hodge-podge of drugs, and had gathered a cache of weapons.

The haul by police included pot, ecstasy, mushrooms, cocaine, hash, LSD, and 23 weapons, including nine handguns and 14 rifles.

“Everything from assault weapons to shotguns,” Miami-Dade Police Detective Roy Rutland said Thursday.

Arrested Wednesday were Nelson Valeriano Rodriguez, 59, and his son Nelson Angel Rodriguez, 33. Both men live at 761 NW 132nd Pl. Miami-Dade property records show the four-bedroom, two-bathroom home was purchased by the elder Rodriguez in 1988.

The father was charged with armed trafficking of cocaine. His son was charged with drug possession and sales and possession of a firearm while in commission of a felony. The younger Rodriguez was released after posting a $50,000 bond. His father remains in jail.

“He cannot bond out,” said Miami-Dade Corrections Spokeswoman Janelle Hall.

Police said the county’s narcotics squad was led to the home Tuesday by a tip from a source who told them the Rodriguezes were selling marijuana. Quickly and quietly, undercover officers set up surveillance and watched as two men approached the home, knocked on the door, then received “suspect narcotics in exchange for U.S. currency.”

When police approached the front patio of the home, the younger Rodriguez opened the front door to deliver more drugs, then noticed the cops, the arrest affidavit says. That’s when, police said, Nelson A. Rodriguez stiffened, then “took a step back and bladed his posture,” and tried to strike one of the officers.

Before connecting with the cop, another officer hit Rodriguez in the head.

“He fell to the ground and was subsequently taken into custody with no further incident,” the arrest form says.

At that point, according to police, the father signed a consent form allowing officers to search the residence. After finding narcotics, two rifles -- including one under a bed -- and a loaded Beretta, police detained the men at the home until obtaining a search warrant from a judge.

The father and son were arrested and charged early Wednesday morning after a further search produced a fully loaded 9mm black Sig Sauer handgun, almost two pounds of pot, 13 grams of ecstasy, mollies, 4.3 grams of mushrooms, 1.8 grams of cocaine, 13 grams of hash, 5.7 grams of hash oil, and three LSD tabs.

Rutland called the seizure of the weapons “a good catch,” from some bad guys.
