On a recent VladTV clip, Godfrey talked about black comedians helping each other, and he brought up one who I haven't thought of in a while- Tony Woods. I watched this guy on TV as a kid and always remembered him killing it.

@5:57 he talks about how he took Dave Chappelle under his wing. I didn't realize how much Dave Chappelle's act mimics Wood's until now.

Anybody seen Tony Woods' stand-up in person recently? How was it?

Gat dang, the timing, cadence and delivery in some parts is Dave to a T. Wow, Tonys influence on Chapelle is evident and immense.

He made it a hot show, Dave made it a hot career.

When did these two stop working together lr do they still? Never seen him credited anywhere. Going to peep more of his sets though, thanks breh.

He opened up for Dave's first stand up since his return in 2014:

Comedian Dave Chappelle marks comeback with Radio City Music Hall show

Woods was asked about his influence on Chappelle in this interview:

Dawan: I’m going to just go on and put it out there. There is a rumor, out there floating around, and has also confirmed by other comedians, that David Chappelle got a lot of his inspiration from you—that’s why your styles are so similar? Is there any truth to that?

Tony: Yeah there is some truth, but he is not the only one, a lot of other comedians have adapted my style, he just happens to be the richest and is the most well known…a household name. God bless them all.

Cadence I can see

But as far as comedic approach and subject matter, it's deff this guy

Oh that's Franklyn Ajaye. He was the dude with the super afro in Car Wash. He had a funny bit on Robert Townsend's Partner's In Crime series on HBO back in the day talking about how God made the sex organs.

One of the angels talking, "Hey, God. You sure you need to put that many nerve endings in there? There's more nerve endings in there than the whole ass."

Here's Ajaye's part.
