I've been out here in white ass Boise, Idaho for two days. I will say that even NY first time here, there's something about being back on the west side if the US that agrees with me, the air is different here and I love it. I miss it...

Bit my off days are coming up and I have little desire to stay here, so I need help on where to go. I've seen a total of 5 black people here so far, and one of then is the gay dude working with me. I'm on the other side of the city from Boise State, so there's probably a few more black people near there, but let's be clear---->Boise is 1.8% black, there's nowhere here I'll find a ton of black people period...

So that's part of the reason I want to leave, but the other part is, I'm just not that interested in Boise. I want a bigger city and this is my first time in the Pacific Northwest, so I need some options on where to go and I've narrowed it to this:

1. Nowhere, stay and enjoy Boise because everything is so spread out, out west

2. Salt Lake City, 2.7% black, ~345 miles/4½ hours from here

3. Portland, 5.8% black, ~425 miles/6 hours from me

4. Seattle, 6.9% black, ~490 miles/7 hours from me

5. back to Sacramento, 13.8% black, ~550 miles/8 hours from me

Company gave a per diem based on estimated gas for the time I'm here, but obviously traveling outta state isn't included in that and those are outta pocket costs, which I'm cool with. Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Do you have your passport with you? I’d check out Vancouver since it’s nearby Seattle.

The only real option. Drive through Seattle and check it out, maybe spend a night and then head over to the border to Vancouver and you’ll have a much better than any of those other states. I will say there’s next to no black people in Vancouver but it is is a vibrant and friendly dope city.

I live out east but I'm from Sacramento, it's a cooler city than it gets credit for...

Nah man I wasn't able to get a passport a few years back because of my criminal past, but I do need to look into it again...

Seattle seems to be the popular choice in here, and in truth it really is somewhere I want to see!

How long you gone be up there?

If it’s a few months or so, I’d just chill out in Boise for the first weekend. Get to know the area, and enjoy some of the nature of the area. Heard it’s beautiful up there.

I know you said you had no desire to stay up there, but if your goal is to get around more black folks, then you’re not going to find that anywhere up there. And driving more than 4 or 5 hours to a destination, when you only have a few days off, has never been really worth it to me.

Went to the hotel bar last night and met a 37-year old brother from Kenya who has been in Boise since '08. He came to America via Delaware in '06 and said he was friends with Ben Carson and his son...

Chatted for about 45 minutes, interesting conversation. He's a CPA and he likes it here, says he's comfortable living among white people. He goes back to Kenya to visit but enjoys living in America, but he won't go live in a bigger city---->he turned down an opportunity to live in Seattle. Said he prefers Portland over Seattle but affirmed Portland is pretty racist...

He's the 8th black person I've encountered here...

I just did a cross country trip from Seattle to down south. I drove through Boise for the first time and stopped for gas. I saw a mixed looking woman (Black/White/native) and I got the hell outta there. Even tho it's the PNW, Boise definitely has a different vibe from Seattle and doesn't have a historical Black culture like that.

I'd say visit Seattle but don't just stay in the city limits if you looking for kinfolk. We mainly in South Seattle, Renton, Kent, Sea-Tac, Tacoma, etc.

I got some older cousins in Sac-Town who used to visit back in the day.

Spent the day in Salt Lake today, just got back to Boise...

A day isn't enough to do everything you want, but what I saw in a day, I liked it. It's a really pretty and scenic city. And I almost saw more black people in Salt Lake today (8), than I've seen in 5 days in Boise (9). Granted, Salt Lake is twice the size of Boise and has more black folk, and if I was on the Westside of town I'd have probably seen more black folk---->I was Downtown and Eastside around University of Utah and Sugar House...

In my defense I didn't even think to look up where black folk in Salt Lake stay until I left, and most black people there stay out west...

It's a really pretty city, there's nowhere I can say I've been that it reminds me of. Feels comparably sized to cities in its weight class. Had a great burger there, weather got to 92° today but was a chill 92, not the East Coast humidity. The women weren't all that impressive as a whole, baddest chick I saw was a mid-20s looking sister. The place is full of white women, but as far as white women go, they aren't the greatest, but I'm also not as high on white women as black women and Afro-Latinas and darker Asians like Filipinas, so Salt Lake women being overwhelmingly full of white chick's was never going to rank as high with me anyway...

I guess it reminds of a larger Boise if I had to pick a comp...

Being in Idaho and going to Utah now makes 32 states I've been to...
