thats subjective and definitely not true depending on the artist. if he was broke, then we have to assume his publishing could not have been right. now we dont know his situation of course, but there are plenty of artists that were not as well known as he was that are making good residuals monthly. BG Knoccout recently mentioned that some song he was featured on from back in the day he still gets a couple grand per month off of on the average...thats just one old song. Mechanical royalties from Makaveli album should be crazy. Royalties were better back in those days due to the physical sales as opposed to today with streaming its not very much so artist make the most off of shows. Remember CPO said back in early 2000 when he contacted Universal about royalties from Picture Me Rollin, he got his first check for $37k and said he still gets a check monthly for that til this day. there are artists that have been on one decent song that get decent checks monthly....someone like Bad Azz who did a lot of features shouldve had some decent residuals theoretically if his publishing was right and he didnt sell it off. again, not saying what he had but rap artists from back in the day, particular on albums that sold in the millions ate and still eat good to this day if their publishing is straight.
