I think Statham would've been a good pick for the part. Maybe it's with a bit of hindsight because he nailed his role in Spy as over-the-top tough guy, but that's the kind of portrayal the part needed.

a younger robert de niro - with the deadpan from meet the parents as he has the walk and chops for the army stuff.

This my favorite comedy of all time. I can watch it over and over again and yes I’m Black and no I’m not offended by Robert Downey’s Blackface, just like Jamie Foxx said this shyt was tastefully and hilariously done.
