Some people in here are making it seem like Wayne started a clothing line and universal gooned him into giving up his ownership..when in reality universal probably wanted some skater t-shirt money so they created Trukfit and offered to give Wayne a cut of sales in exchange for him making it hot
Yeah, Im not getting the point of this thread
people actually bought into Waynes branding when trukfit came out he had the endorsement/orgin story something like "When I was in the hood, people used to sell clothes out of the back of their trucks so we'd cop 'truckfits'" or some shyt. So people thought that he had a brilliant idea and somehow marketed it when in reality........................
Nah it's a part of a 360 music deal more than likely. Wayne gets to look like a "boss" with his own clothing line, when in reality it's just a way for his label to recoup off him.
You can't be a boss when you're not even sober.
The industry is like any other job with internal transfers and such. There are many 'ventures' an artist can buy into. various ventures, clothing and other product and commercial endorsements, chain (restaurant) endorsements, even minor a&r- keep in mind these artists' arent locating talent or even managing or building talent, they are introduced through the labels and its one of those deals where that artist is being broken into the game under someone else. artists can be kept on a label even when their album flops and be forced to ghostwrite for other artists until the label recoups. theres a lot of opportunies and experiences available even movie deals (universal, sony) dont expect the leading man role or to headline, but a cameo, usage of a song, or dibs on recording an original song for the movie. etc
Does Wayne own anything?
