but we were told that obama "did nothing" for HBCUs so that's why it was imperative that they show up to this meeting with this hustler pimp president because if he is willing to give you something when obama didn't do shyt for you, you show up and collect your money. now after you didn't get anything you conveniently remember that obama did do something for you, you just thought it wasn't enough. bunch of gullible hucksters who got played by the ultimate huckster. they don't deserve to be university presidents.

Just got some info from a very credible person that this is worse than a photo op.

Trump has put Omarosa in charge of White House Initiative of HBCU's. Last week they tried to fire the entire staff and replace them with Trump minions. The Department of Education HR stepped in and stopped it but they are currently under a stop work order until things get sorted out.

Publicly he's talking about saving HBCU's but behind the scenes they're taking apart the only office established by Ronald Reagan to help HBCU's. Typical republican lie.

I know this cuz a friend of mine was supposed to do a call with the office, but it got canceled cuz everyone might be losing their job.

Not mad at the Presidents for taking the meeting. But when this comes out they better go on the record about how fukked up it is too

When Betsy Devos stated that these schools were pioneers in school choice, that let me know that reduction in funding was coming...she wasn't talking about the past, she was talking about the future.

Aside from government assistance, what can be done to keep these schools open?

the public ones are going to be fine because they are funded by their states (if your state has a public HBCU you and other black folks need to be real vocal that they get their fair share of the budget). it's the private ones that don't have the prestige of howard and morehouse who will be in trouble and would be in trouble regardless of who is president.

at the end of the day, regardless of public/private, hbcu/non-hbcu, if congress and the president cut pell grants or slow the growth in award amount, increase subsidized loan interest rates then they aren't helping any students.
