Sounds like Trump “did America a favor” canning Comey
:sas2:
You really bumped this thread for that? I expected you to be above some crony on Fox News. But you're sounding just like them.

It would have looked bad if either President fired Comey. If President Obama fired Comey, Republicans would have accused Obama of firing Comey to protect Hilary Clinton during a critical election year. The torches would have been out for Obama, Loretta Lynch and both Clintons and you know it. They probably would have called for an obstruction of justice investigation.

Trump has the authority to fire an FBI Director, but the reason he fired Comey for is B.S. Claiming it was because of how he handled the Clinton investigation which doesn't make sense considering Trump and Jeff Sessions both praised Comey for how he handled the Clinton investigation. (Because it benefited them politically.)

Plus, there was an "original letter" that explained why Comey was fired that was apparently so problematic that the white house counsel did not want it released as the reasoning for firing Comey so they re-did another letter that put the Clinton investigation in there as the reasoning. This B.S reason along with other behavior is why he's under investigation for Obstruction of Justice.

Trump didn't fire Comey for America's interests and you know it. He fired him for his personal interests.

Not gonna argue trumps motives, but Comey deserved to be canned. Period.

That said, Mueller seems much more capable of investigating possible collusion(of which I believe there was none).
:salute:
Showboat might not be the right word, but Comey definitely has this ego, righteous, martyr personality that causes him to feel the need to be very public with his beliefs in the interest of "protecting the truth and image of institutions" and it makes him look like a showboat, and someone that can easily be attacked.

He should have been fired in 2016, but that would have caused a political firestorm. The only appropriate time to fire him was January 20th, 2017 when Trump was being sworn in, but Trump was asking for his loyalty instead. He could have fired him on January 20th and just said he wanted to start his administration clean of any drama from what the FBI did in 2016. That would have been fine.

You would think Comey would have learned from Mueller how to be a low key FBI director, since Comey was the Deputy Attorney General when Mueller was FBI director and they worked closely a lot, but Comey's personality made him unable to be like Mueller. :francis:

Comey deserved to be fired.

A villainous human being and Trump is 100 percent correct here.
