I think consensus is already that Americans consume too much sugar. Even in the studies you linked, there seems to be a reluctancy to accept the fact that fructose and glucose are not metabolized the same in the human body. And that's just pure monomers, not the polymer that is HFCS. They aren't willing to make the link. And I understand that, it's a big industry in this country. Personally it's clear to see, all sugar is obviously bad when overdone, but the human body evolved over hundreds of thousands of years metabolizing one form of it. Too much unrefined sugar may not have caused the rates of diabetes we see with too much HFCS.

Thats kinda the point though. Our dietary supply is stuffed with sugars at all points of the supply chain. shyt that shouldn't have sugar, has it. For example, I recently found out that they put sugar into cigarettes to make them more appealing/addictive. How Sugar Helped Hook America on Cigarettes

My post was a joke but if you actually wanna look at it, sugar is the leading cause of many health issues especially obesity, which poses a tremendous financial burden on our health care system.

Sugar from Mexico also constitutes 28% of our sugar imports, easing the burden on US sugar production. (Source)

The US is still the biggest producer and exporter of sugar, but it's also the third largest consumer of sugar as well, and we depend on imports to meet sugar consumption.

Think about this thread and you'll know how Trump won.

Started out discussing the merits of his trade policies and within a few posts mfers arguing about nutritional benefits of sugar :russ:

as i'm reading the beginning of the article i'm saying to myself this reads like industry funded language. obviously sugar isn't a health food. and that's why water is better for you than juice.

btw, i take it you all that like the idea of sugar becoming more expensive also appreciate the nanny state actions of some cities that have a sugar tax because healthier people and lower health costs (or people paying for the increased health costs via this tax) drive those moves.

Yeah, I'd certainly believe high-fructose IS worse than regular sugar but that doesn't make sugar safe in itself, imo. I have a few friends that have tried to cut out sugar from their diets and they've had a lot of trouble with it because they're finding sugar is in almost everything they eat.

I don't agree with artificially raising the price of sugar to thwart demand but I'm not entirely opposed to it in a risk/reward view. They did the same thing with ciggerettes by taxing them to outrageous levels to diminish demand. Its sort of worked imo.

The average American consumes more sugar in a year than many of our ancestors did in a lifetime. :russ: I might have butchered that but it's some crazy stat like that. Sugar isn't cheap to produce. With our advances in tech, and the global economy better than it's ever been the past, were able to eat more of it. Sugar is a problem. Salt is a problem. That shyt is everywhere too. It's damn near impossible to eat under the daily recommended amount of salt. Our portions are too big. Here's a lot to sift through. All I'm saying though, is that I think there is a unique problem that arises from the amount we use HFCS.

Wrong. High fructose corn syrup is responsible with saturated trans fats as well as salt. If more people ate natural unrefined sugar who knows where we'd be
A lot of people don't even know about artificial sugar unfortunately and our private health care industry likes an ignorant sick patient
