The incoming Trump administration is considering a registry for immigrants from Muslim countries and the construction of a border wall without congressional approval, a candidate to serve as Donald Trump’s attorney general told Reuters.

Kris Kobach, the Kansas Secretary of State, told Reuters he has been in regular contact with Trump’s immigration advisers and that both the registry and the wall are under consideration. Kobach is widely known for his hardline stances on immigration.

The registry would apparently be modeled after the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System, a monitoring program started after 9/11 that was dropped in 2011. Trump famously proposed a ban on all Muslims entering the United States during the campaign, though he later walked that back and instead said there should be “extreme vetting” for those entering the U.S. from certain regions of the world.

The news on the wall comes after Trump appeared to be backing away from the promise of a border wall, saying in a recent interview that parts of it might simply be a fence.

Even though Trump has a republican majority in Congress so in theory they should be rolling on all cylinders, something tells me the Trump/Congress relationship is going to be full of fukkery.
