This is a sad but interesting question. How many grad students will leave and where, if anywhere will they go ?

Live here and am in grad school here. I have one class where 13 out of the 15 in it are leaving the state or country at end of semester.
That funding loss will really impact the summer where the population is half that so it’s about $2k per person.

I know two families with accomplished high scoring SAT high school seniors both looking at University outside U.S. Neither is in a targeted group, they just don’t want to be here.

If I had children going into college would absolutely encourage them to go to school abroad and do their best to stay there.

Canada is actively recruiting for colleges and medical professionals

anniemariegosch.bsky.social
I've seen that and will actively consider.
We have heard, it is talked about at work. (American nurse)

Of everything the orange turd is doing to ruin our country, it’s the “dummying down” that pisses me off the most.

Pol Pot did the same in Cambodia. Teachers and doctors etc were lucky if the could get a job planting rice

All my friends have been talking about for the last 12 months has been the thought of supporting our local rugby team playing in Vegas next year along with the Aussie NRL competition. 70k people at Allegiant stadium who will drink the town dry. They aint talking any more.

I want everyone to boycott us. Don't visit, don't buy anything from us. It needs to be so far-reaching that the pain will be felt everywhere. I want it to be so bad that the mafia feels it and maybe considers doing something about it.

ajlcstout.bsky.social
They won’t though. This is what they want to happen. I swear they don’t care if we all die.
13/35

deaddropholiday.bsky.social
Nah. They care. Because even more than taking every last cent in your pocket they have an insatiable hunger to be worshipped like gods. What's the point in being wealthy if there's nobody to see you on the front row at the Lakers?

My cousin's daughter is getting her PhD in neuroscience, worked for a doctor doing groundbreaking research into Alzheimer's disease. He got fired by the gov't and lost 15 yrs of research/progress into finding AD treatments/cure. She is now finishing her AD internship up in Copenhagen

They're looking at Canada, Europe, and Asia, obviously.
There's lots of "world class" universities around the globe.
Ex.(off the top of my head): UCDavis, UofA, Tucson, and Cornell, have excellent food science programs.
So do Guelph, U. of Toronto (

) and U. of Valencia (

).

It will take the US a generation or more to recover.
21/35

toomanyusernames.bsky.social
If ever. This is multiple generations of trust and good will that was set on fire in a matter of weeks. I don’t think we’ll ever lead anything again. All we’re gonna have is high prices, shyt products and crumbling infrastructure. We’re gonna be Russia.

Nurse here, and I will be moving my whole family OUT.
fukk this scenario. I'm not on board.
This country is rotten.
I'm just trying to gauge where to go and how to best do it. But it's definitely happening.

Of course New Zealand always rates high for best places for American nurses but I’ve also looked into Malta a little bit. Lots of English speakers. Reasonable cost of living. Good healthcare. Canada will probably never be short of nurses again.

I just met a brilliant young quantum physics researcher from the US who is heading to Europe for his graduate study because of the situation here at home.

I’m afraid many thousands of scholars will flee the US. They will go to Canada, to various European countries, possibly Australia, India, and South Africa. (Just guessing) Freedom begets learning; learning begets freedom. Take away one, lose both. Dumbing down the US will hurt us.

And that is how America became blessed with people coming to America enjoying their freedom and contributing to its success. Now Americans will be leaving and contributing to another country.

Curiosity but what does a pharmacist do at an econ school?
30/35

loriweathers.bsky.social
Colleges have health centers and pharmacists.

I guess I'm surprised that a pharmacist from the US would be hired for this role in London.

People are not thinking big picture impacts! I also heard that many medical researchers are thinking of leaving the country. This is ridiculous! He is setting us back decades!!

Where will they go? Are you so US centric that you do not recognize worldwide acknowledge institutions? A few for consideration, comparable to the so called Ivy Leagues:
And Add McGill, U of Toronto, and others. American Arrogance

And, for the most part, foreign students pay full tuition, which colleges love.

I’m a PhD candidate in Boston. My dissertation data from the CDC is now in jeopardy. Knowing millions of people in this country don’t value science and research is heartbreaking, but it’s more than that- we’re simultaneously watching our mentors careers be destroyed.
