Terrell Roberts, a former lawyer for the Babbitt family, asked the judge early on Friday to issue a lien on the final settlement of at least 25% so he could collect on allegedly unpaid attorneys’ fees. In his request to the judge, Roberts also revealed that he had only learned a settlement had been reached because a reporter called him to confirm it.
