At least four city correction officers watched for seven minutes as an 18-year-old Rikers Island prisoner tried to hang himself, sources said.
The inmate, Nicholas Feliciano, 18, was taken to the Elmhurst Hospital Prison Ward, where he was on a respirator with no brain activity, after being put into a medically induced coma, the sources told the Daily News.

The officers have been suspended, while the city’s Department of Investigation looks into the matter, officials said in a statement to The News on Tuesday night.
The officers apparently were watching a live feed of Feliciano’s suicide attempt for several minutes before finally intervening. A separate camera captured the officers’ inaction, the sources said.
Feliciano, 18, was arrested Nov. 19 on a parole violation, and was being held at the George R. Vierno Center on Rikers Island. The suicide attempt happened late last week, after Feliciano was moved from the general housing area after a fight with another inmate. Feliciano tied one end of a piece of clothing around his neck and the other end around a pipe on the ceiling. and stepped off a partition separating a toilet from the rest of the cell, according to sources.
A full seven minutes passed before officers intervened, sources said.
