Sgt. Slaughter...oh man.....legendary gimmick...i mean the dude had a GI JOE figure for crying out and was in the cartoon..i owned a Sgt. slaughter action figure :wow:

...Slaughter was effective as a face or heel....had the promo part of a crazed DI or super patriot down cold....the heel part in particular led to the infamous Iragi sympathizer version of Sgt.Slaughter that got him insane heat. For a guy his size, he was pretty decent in the ring and bump his ass off..cobra clutch is a legendary finisher....gave Hulk Hogan a rare above average match IMO at WM7..and of course the legendary alley fight with Pat Patterson in the early 80s...he also did his thing in the commissioner role in the late 90s. Too bad biggest peaks of his career were either cut off prematurely due to behind the scene issues or they were some transitional shyt. Give Sarge a 7-7.5

Pulled off an almost impossible job of reverting back to a face right after he turned his back on the entire country during an actual war LOL. This is not an easy task and he pulled it off convincingly. When he wanted to and when he got the ball, he got immense heat. Intensity and goofiness = best of the golden era. Today most promos are bland or about trying to be comedy. This era had them doing a little of both sometimes and it worked.

He played the back for most of his career but he was still a great supporting mid carder and an effective brawler. His GI Joe stuff was great for his pockets too, but bad for his career because Vince didn't like Slaughter cutting checks without him. Anyways, give him his props. I say an 8. Memorable gimmick, had that 80s cross over success on his own, cut some good promos, and had some crazy brawls that people remember to this day.

Great gimmick, and for about 2 years he was on fire with the Iraqi sympathizer shyt, ( that would never fly in the sensitive era we in today), he even got to do his gimmick in GI joe and it worked jsut as good.

However that shyt only lasted for a few short years and after the war his gimmick just wasnt as impact

You gotta check out the MACW stuff up on the Network when he was, arguably, in his prime. Just fukking MURDERING jobbers, talking that shyt. He was vicious. Patterson/Sarge street fight is still a classic. Kind of wild that his most well known period is really at the tail end of his career.

Slaughter was one of the best workers in the US for like 5 years between 80' and 85'. One of the best bumpers ever, dude was a insane with that shyt, specially for his era. Motherfukker did a top of the cage splash for fukks sakes :damn:

awesome brawler too.

Had 1 legit Match of the Decade Contender against Iron Sheik, and an iconic tag match against Stemboat and Youngblood at Final Conflict.

Sarge was the first wrestler that I ever went :ohhh:

when I checked his territory stuff. I thought dude was a useless wrestler living of a gimmick but he was fukking dope in his prime. He gets an 8 from me.

I can’t give him a fair rating, cause in-ring wise, I missed his entire prime, but as a character, he was amazing and a 100% heat magnet in the early 90s. Legendary and iconic gimmick that’s still referenced today.
