‘That’s a war crime’: Ex-Trump envoy Brett McGurk is outraged by assassination of Hevrin Khalaf


President Donald Trump’s former top official responsible for defeating the Islamic State was outraged on Saturday by reports that Syrian Future Party co-Chair Hevrin Khalaf had been killed.

Brett McGurk, the former special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL blasted the killing as a war crime.



Earlier in the day, McGurk had retweeted a statement that Trump was leaving the Kurds “to be slaughtered” by Turkey.

It’s ironic that hundreds of years ago, Kurds like Nour-al din and Salah-al din were instrumental in restoring honor to the Muslim world by defeating the crusaders. And yet today their people get fukked over in such fashion.

We have a Trump thread too but people can still make new threads about Trump.

I wanted to make it it's own thread because it shows starkly that actual war crimes are already happening. The Turkey thread was made due to the threat of war, but a proven, admitted war crime is a whole new level.

And no, the international community won't do shyt. Which is why the only thing we can do is hold responsible the politicians that we have control over.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh, as someone who has been following the Syrian Civil war since the first protests in Daraa, I welcome this move.

The issue is that the kurds wants their own land that was taken away from Syria, another Israel if you will. But the YPG, who later morphed into the SDF, had a significant number of PKK in their ranks. This would be like Mexico using an Arabic paramilitary force made up of some ISIS members to take out the cartels in their country, then letting them chill on our borders. How long do you think the US would standby before hitting them with some Shock and Awe?

What is fukked up though is how the United states set up the Kurds. Last year they stopped them from negotiating with Syria and Russia about reconciling, then this year they get them to remove some defensive installations because of joint patrols they promised to do with the the kurds, and once Turkey was ready to invade, they pulled out.
