Record Label Accounting
Advance Budget: $700K
*album sells 750,000 copies, 1 million in singles*
Gross Revenue: $11 per album ($8.25MM); $1 per single ($1MM); $9.25MM total
*let's say the label takes home 70%, distributors/retailers take 30%*
Revenue: $6.475MM (don't know the tax structure, won't get into it)
Artist Royalties: $0.40 for every album sold x 750K albums = $300K
*$300K (royalties) - $700K (initial budget) = -$400K (you still owedespite the $6.5MM you earned in total
)
"Hey hard working man, I see you've earned a lot of money over there . . let me ACcount it for you"

despite the $6.5MM you earned in total
at selling 400,000 albums and not recouping your budget. Rack City alone sold 2 million singles. Where did all that money go? How much do you think Baby really spent on this kid's project? These guys over at Cash Money aren't oblivious to the music climate. They're very good at their job....they're not gonna put 5 million dollars into Tyga's album knowing he wont move more than gold. They probably spent less than 500K.

Cash Money doing their artists dirty is something everybody knows about. The fact that its largely ignored and people keep signing with them is the mindboggling part. Its even worse when you see Birdman flaunting his new whips and shyt while have of his artists hadn't seen a check in years....
treatment....
