He's already been eating off BET so it makes sense that he'll try and buy it.

He's 100% gonna use it to push even more of his content lol

He knows his audience very well. Like somebody else told me in that thread of him being the third highest earning entertainer of last year, he's still writing everything he produces.

I think buying this would give him more leverage and opportunities to give to new/rising/overlooked black directors/writers/actors like he's kinda been doing on the actor side.

While I don't fukk with the Madea shyt at all - I completely understand the target audience (my grandma/aunt and their friends, occasionally my mom or uncle) But mainly religious, black women and he's admitted to knowing his audience, and pandering to them.

Which I'm not entirely mad at. It's an underserved market, as he's proven and he does it pretty well. His content outside of their ranges from good to what the absolute fukk, but he's definitely talented and lowkey the best option for this network since, hate him all you want for crossdressing, he has NEVER changed his content up to be more palatable for white people

Let my grandma and her circle eat :yeshrug:

He's almost far more likely to bring back 106&Park/Rap City/etc. He's not dumb
None of that is going to happen.

Aye, I just said it was far more likely lmao.

If this gets sold to somebody else, you'll never see that shyt again

We’re not going to see it regardless

Its not “more likely” to happen under Tyler Perry’s watch than it would Tom Hanks. Tyler Perry has absolutely ZERO history of being connected creatively, financially, or business-wise to anything regarding deeper black culture other than his Black Christian Value Minstrel shows and Lowbrow lowest common denominator black soap operas. Thats his lane, his bread and butter and thats what he sticks with. And thats good for him and if he takes over BET thats what we’ll get more of.

There will be no return of 106 & Park, BET Nightly News, Black College Football, Teen Summit, Planet Groove, or Comic View. The “Golden Era” of BET has long since passed. The most we MIGHT get is something like a reboot of Cita’s World. THAT’S up Tyler Perry’s ally

I'd love to see this happen. I'm surprised Byron Allen didn't try to scoop up BET, after his failed attempt at buying the Washington Commanders.

Not looking forward to it

Tyler Perry’s work is awful

If this were Spike Lee or even Ryan Coogler or Ava Duvernay i’d be STOKED
I'm leaning towards Spike being washed but I'd be down. I have no idea how Spike makes money these days.

Coogler seems like he'd be too busy

All good points. I remember when my grandma and the older women at her church would be bussed to theaters to see his films. Then they started getting screenings in mega churches. He built his empire on that shyt, and everything since then has been trashy. Only difference is his stuff is far raunchier than it was back in the day.

He's probably looking at this from a streaming perspective. A BET app full of all his bullshyt, similar to Zeus/Tubi. The perfect hub for cheap, trash tier shows and reality TV. Which he could sell to Apple, Amazon, or HBO in 5-10 years.
