I was literally on SOHH the day Yonkers dropped and the OF movement started. Still a huge fan of the Internet and Earl was/is my favorite spitter in the crew and of course Frank was dropping critically acclaimed classics. So I say this as someone who’s seen his whole career unfold.

But time to call it out. This man has NO hit records. Extremely average bars where he literally ain’t saying shyt. Earl’s I Don’t Like shyt I Don’t Go Outside lyrically shyts on anything Tyler has ever written and that album dropped 10 years ago.

He’s been compared to his idols Kanye and Pharrell but he’s literally nooooowhere near their level in terms of creativity or originality. He rehashes a lot of their sounds. He’s never produced a project or made a hit record for anyone while those two practically gave away hits in hip hop and R&B. To me there’s really nothing to compare between them other than they both rap and produce. I can’t think of one memorable record from his discography that stands out as something special. I have joints I really like (See You Again, Run It Up, Droppin Seeds) but they’re just nice cool records.

After a couple spins of the new album it just sounds like a mess. He’s trying to channel a Kaytranada vibe on some of the records but none of it rocks. He made a post after releasing the album talking about why people don’t dance anymore but you can’t dance to any of the shyt on this album! It doesn’t bounce or groove like that. You won’t see ANY shorties shakin they ass to this this summer.

He has amazing marketing and has crafted his image over the last decade brilliantly and I think he shines there more than any music he’s ever made. I know some Coli nikkas really like him and view him as some hip hop messiah but he doesn’t have any records that I truly want to go back and revisit after the initial drop and hype wears off. This year we got legit potential classic albums in :

Clipse - Let Go Sort ‘Em Out
Rome Streetz - Trainspotting
Larry June x Cardo - Until Night Comes
Larry June x Alc x Chainz - Life is Beautiful
MIKE - Showbiz!

Iceman coming soon and Freddie x Alc dropping this Friday. I can’t see this album topping any end of year lists or the joints I mentioned above from such a “critically acclaimed” artist.

What do yall think?

Agree entirely. He's a bedroom artist that has been elevated by the internet. He's a B+ producer and a C rapper. He makes good cohesive projects but songs never stand out. I don't think he's ever written a great one.

And he has never overcome his influences. The production on that last album literally makes me stop and go listen to better Neptune's music.

Tyler has always been an average rapper at best. His weirdo antics and general fakkitry definitely don't help

He killed his feature on the new Clipse album, probably the best verse I've heard from him. But most people are saying that's not how he normally sounds, so probably why :pachaha:
