Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon made an interesting revelation while speaking at the KeyBank Global Leaders Forum in Toledo on Friday morning — the Michigan athletic department "catfished" several of its athletes to make a point about the dangers of social media.

According to the ElevenWarriors.com website, Brandon said the U-M athletic department had an attractive female contact athletes via social media, and some of the responses were inappropriate.

Brandon, who spoke to reporters on a number of topics after the even, said he then had a meeting with the players, according to the website, and the woman walked in. The athletes were stunned.

This move comes in the wake of the "catfish" scenario involving former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o, who said he was duped into thinking he was having a relationship through social media with a woman, who in the end, did not exist.

Something about this story, or at least, the way it's been written, rubs me the wrong way.

These dudes didn't lie (Or, excuse me, "tailor") about shyt in order to further their own fame and reputation...what's with the Te'o comparison?

Obviously, anyone can get GOT. Obviously athletes need to be careful about how they conduct themselves online. But how these dudes respond when the cat is out the bag is far more telling.
