Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
U.S. has almost 500,000 job openings in cybersecurity

There are about 465,000 open positions in cybersecurity nationwide as of May 2021, according to Cyber Seek — a tech job-tracking database from the U.S. Commerce Department — and the trade group CompTIA.

The need for more web watchmen spans from private businesses to government agencies, experts say, and most of the job openings are in California, Florida, Texas and Virginia. That means for anyone looking to switch careers and considering a job in cybersecurity, there's no greater time than now to find work, the job trackers said.

I could go into the cybersecurity sector of IS/IT but I feel like I would need to go back to school and I'd rather not (unless I was hurting for work). Lots of women were in cybersecurity when I was working for GE via compucom, that should continue.

Most businesses can't train whoever to be a 'pen-tester' but need to treat technology security seriously by hiring competent IT staff, listening to them and spending real money on shyt (training staff on technology & security, email security, 2fa/mfa, modernizing the technology on-site, etc).

1. https://www.thecoli.com/forums/6-figures-6-certs.77/ lots of great resources to answer your question.

2. as @FAH1223 said it really depends on what kind of security you want to go into, security+ from comptia is a good cert to start with and if you are really serious the CISSP is the de facto cert that can damn near guarantee you a job.

god help us ...

current security dogma is terrible.

had "security and privacy conscious" ssl using email service, ask me to complete google captchas because of "reasons" (probably related to me blocking 3rd party cookies).
