Above the fray.
Who knew? Literally a cock fighting logo / brand name.

This is one of those 80s brands that could make a comeback.

Had a literal cockfighting building :dame: outside of a hotel I stayed in in Isla Verde in San Juan, which is probably one of more expensive locations, where tourists stay. There's no way in hell they're just giving that up.

Not to mention the U.S. owes Puerto Rico A LOT more economically than they'll ever admit.
Conado and Old San Juan are where the more expensive places to stay are. Isla Verde is right by the airport and take 15-20 minute to get to anything. My Puerto Rican friends make fun of people who live in Isla Verde.

Above the fray.
shouts out to Roy Jones Jr.
This is the part that shocked me about the article. That cockfighting was illegal in America now. I know it used to be legal in Florida and maybe a few others places. RJ used to openly promote the sport.

They should have tried to phase it out slowly. If the laws were changed abruptly, all they did was drive it underground.

they should ban the betting not the fights

roosters will fight at the drop of a dime. you don't even have to force or train em like dogs... shyt is how they live.

The whole point is to gamble....lol no one wants to watch cock fighting unless money is on it..

Yeah, but why be worried about some birds in another land? It's part of their tradition so let them keep it.

I feel like there are more animal rights activists these days than human ones.
Bc it not really 'in another land', and certain traditions need to be changed; are done so all the time. Besides this isn't about Trump, or the US govt imperializing...so much as it is an animal rights issue. Not every one supports this you know.

Oh please bruh, some of the responses in this thread are ridiculous, it’s tradition and provides economy to an island with an already fukked up economy. As if the food or dead animals you or anyone else eats are humanely put to sleep.
Oh, really?:comeon: Says whom? Last I checked a few marked things are mainly responsible for P.R faultering economy, inclu the loss of potental revenue--none of if which depends on cock-fighting!
Again, aside from tradition(which isn't any excuse) practices like this are outdated, archaic, and barbaric, and bc of such need to be done away with, imo.
