Legality doesn't equal "right":snoop:
“right” is subjective...

It’s my understanding that everyone(including me and you) seeks to legally minimize their tax burden.
:manny:
I see nothing ‘wrong’ with tax avoidance.

:ufdup:It’s tax evasion that’s a problem.

what is the practical difference between 'tax avoidance' and 'tax evasion'?

:jbhmm:

Tax Avoidance is using legal means to reduce one’s tax burden

Tax Evasion is illegally underreporting income or hiding income so as to not pay taxes.

Avoidance can entail things like taking tax credits or deductions (which many middle class people do, so it isn’t some Mega Corporation thing).

Tax avoidance is perfectly legal but its seen as “morally wrong”.

The issue I think people in this thread have is the level of legal tax avoidance allowed to businesses (both big and small). But that’s a convo for another day...

"In 2019, Uber claimed $4.5 billion in global operating losses (excluding the US and China) for tax purposes — in reality, it brought in $5.8 billion in operating revenue, according to CICTAR, an Australia-based research group."

This statement isnt mutual exclusive and is intentionally misleading by the group. Uber reported this in their earnings which is under sec regulation. Lying in their reports is illegal
