I think that's the point of modeling though. You either get a really attractive person or you get someone with unique physical characteristics(even if that person is not the most attractive). I think fashion designers do that on purpose to make there designs stick out more and look good.

Yeah, high fashion/couture designers love the unconventional attractive types. For some, especially the real artsy ones, a so-called pretty face can do more damage than good.
