Exclusive: Tennessee Strikes Back At TNA to Collect Unpaid Taxes – SEScoops

TNA’s financial issues are even more dire than previously thought, as unlikely as that may sound. We already knew that there are multiple lawsuits pending, a restraining order believed to be designed to stop the company from selling shares again, a dispute over music rights, and debt owed to various entities who funded the recent tapings. Yet there is still plenty of room for more.

On Friday morning, I confirmed with the Davidson County Register of Deeds that the State of Tennessee issued a tax lien against TNA Entertainment LLC about five weeks ago on September 8th. While the listing for the lien in some online databases has the debt recorded as “$0,” that is because some public record search companies misread the Register of Deeds not recording the amount of the lien.

Essentially, what this means is that TNA owes a lot of taxes to the state of Tennessee, to the point that the state now has the right to seize TNA property if the debt is not repaid. While the wrestling company is now operating under the newer Impact Ventures LLC company that was formed this year, Tennessee tax law covers successor companies. If someone actually buys the company, potential scenarios include TNA/majority owner Dixie Carter having to take a lower sale price so as to pay off the lien, or the new owners risking the scenario where Tennessee goes after them for the tax liability.

It’s up to the state whether or not to assert its rights and start seizing assets from TNA. While the restructuring as Impact Ventures LLC increases the distance from the original debt and thus requires more work by the state to collect, it can still do so. Tennessee would just have to assess a lien against Impact Ventures and, if it got that far, a buyer as well. However, the state cannot go after a successor for more than the purchase price.

That's not Uncle Sam. That's just the State of Tennessee

411MANIA | The 411 Douchebag of the Week: Dixie Carter

This week, the 411 Douchebag of the Week goes to Dixie Carter, for allowing TNA Impact wrestling to implode. Yes, it’s been a long time coming. TNA has been in deep shyt for years. It was only a matter of time before the wheels finally fell off the cart and the company went out of business. It hasn’t gone completely out of business, not quite yet, but it sure sounds like it’s damn close. It didn’t have to be that way.

Now, pro wrestling companies, both large and small, make gigantic mistakes all of the time. WWE, NWA, WCW, AWA, World Class, ECW, they’ve all engaged in horrendous booking and feuds at one time or another. But they’ve also managed to make great decisions and put together tremendous matches and feuds. The WWE is doing both right this second (just go on the internets and read all about it. It’s there if you look for it). Is TNA? I doubt it. The company still has a decent talent roster that can wrestle and put on a good show, but when was the last time you heard anyone rave about something TNA has done? That Final Deletion thing with Matt Hardy is the only recent thing that comes to mind. Was there anything “good” before that?

Again, I doubt it. If the company did do anything worthwhile, no one seems to be talking about it at the moment. All anyone is talking about is what a disaster everything is. And who is to blame for the coming destruction of TNA?

Dixie Carter. She’s been in charge of the company for close to a decade and has made nothing but bad decisions. Hulk Hogan. Eric Bischoff. Vince goddamn Russo. I mean, yes, former TNA leader Jeff Jarrett is the one who hired Russo in the first place, but Carter eventually brought him back. She didn’t see/understand that he was a disaster? Apparently not. She also didn’t see that Hogan and Bischoff were just out to enrich themselves. Carter also lost TNA’s former home Spike TV, moved everything to Destination America, lost that home, and then moved everything to Pop, a cable channel that seems to be even harder to find than Destination America.

And what’s happening now? Carter is being sued by multiple parties, including Billy Corgan, the new TNA president and one of the few people left in the world who seem to think that TNA has a future. Why would she allow that to happen?

Bad decisions.

It didn’t have to be that way. TNA could have done its own thing, created its own worthwhile identity as a pro wrestling outfit. It never even bothered to try. For every AJ Styles and Samoa Joe or Christian Cage there’s just an endless list of garbage no one can remember because it’s garbage.

Dixie Carter allowed it to happen.

Will TNA be around in 2017? It might, in some form. But it will likely be hanging on by a thread no matter what. And that’s a damn shame.
