Hello y’all and welcome to another boring track by track courtesy of yours truly, Cole James Cash. This album is about taking my young son through the trials an tribulations of life and breaking them down in instrumental form.
1. November 10th 2010 – As I stated in the song, his mother was giving birth while the Giants were about to basically secure the world series. She was in a lot of pain but I tried to calm her down by saying “no look! were gonna win” and she told me to shut the fukk up. It was a funny moment, hey i tried. I used the sample from “Goldie- Angel” because hes the most important thing in my life, and someone I cherish and love. “Stay with me don’t let go” the sample says, means just that.
2. Love your Woman as you Love Yourself – This song deals with a lot of romantic situations I was in and they were fukked up, now I am secure with where I am at now, but back in my earlier years I was with a lot of verbally mouthy scally wags who didn’t know when to shut the fukk up. You gotta know when to walk away. The song itself has a very intimate feel to it, at the end the sample plays J-Majik and Kathy Brown’s “Love Is Not a Game” because it really ain;t my friend.
3. Be Humble In Conflict – This is something I definitely l live by. I do everything I can not to spaz out on nikkas i cant stand. This is also a favorite of LEX my Elite Squad member and good friend. The intro on this is your typical boom bap calming intro, then the beat shifts into a more uptempo feel to give it a sense of excitement, conflict gets adrenaline pumping no question.
4. Be Your Own Man – This is something I have done my whole life for better or worse. I only had one parent, she supported me in everything I wanted to do, the soundscapes on this song are meant to reflect a sense of reflection for him “I can do anything, My father will help me” Which I will. The beat change on this song is just something I thought would sound good. My son has two parents who love him, he will have everything I never had.
5. If You Fall I Will Pick You Back Up – This one means a lot, this is where I detail how I was homeless back in march of 2014, it all came apart. Sadly I went through a tough rehab stint that included 3 halfway houses, fights all that shyt, but I made it. In the last part of the song the sample says “Pushin back, turning around your feelings” or a chop of it. It’s to show him, don’t ever give up, hang in there, because daddy loves you. Sounds corny, but the CRC has kids and we all love our kids real talk.
6. I Will Always Be By Your Side – This was made at a very tumultuous time in my life. Phone communication was sometimes the only way I could talk to him. It weighed heavy on me and my heart for real. So i used samples from dial tones and from the song by Dee Lite “call me” along with the punch tone sound. This was to let him know I am always a phone call away.
7. You Will Always Be A Target Because Due To Your Race – This one is as clear as day and a fact. My son as you see on the cover and back, is a Black/Mexican. All he can do is stand strong be respectful and realize hes always going to be a target. I have definately been arressted, pulled over all that shyt for nothing. Im warning him the obvious.
8. Hands Up Ft “Crew 54”- This song was made during the height of the Mike Brown saga and little did we know, this shyt would keep happening over and over again. The expression on this song and the emotion is real. The last 2 and a half minutes or so (which Robbie called ‘pseudo artistic’) lol, was to represent the last few minutes of the encounter between Darren Wilson and Mike Brown. It was the first song I made for the album and one that meant a lot to me.
