...an ode to the horns in Hip-Hop...because I rarely hear them anymore (along with the jingle bells) ... Here's ten I cobbled together...add on. I'm interested in newer songs, too.
1. The Ruler's Back - Slick Rick (Technically a trumpet but,
just
)
2. TROY - Pete Rock and CL (gets no more classic than that)
3. Life's A B*tch - Nas (Olu's horn solo will never be forgotten on this and it's a distinguishing stamp on the track)
4. Cool Like Dat - Digable Planets (Blew up off of this...)
5. Check the Rhime - A Tribe Called Quest (C'mon, son...already...a definitive work from a group that helped popularize the Jazz infusion)
6. I Ain't No Joke - Eric B. & Rakim (no explanation needed)
7. Ex Girl, Next Girl - Gangstarr (RIP Guru...Preemo messed w/ the horns and Jazz infusion heavy at one point...of course Guru did the Jazzmatazz project)
8. Spottieottiedopalicious - OutKast (blaring, defiant horns from arguably the greatest duo of all time...)
9. I Got Cha Opin (Remix) - Black Moon (that grimy, underground NYC -ish)
10. Roc Boys- Jay-Z (Nicca used a whole horn section...fitting for the theme of the song...has a Salutatory type feel.)
