ADHD version : if lawyers are trained on how to protect the assets of the wealthy, and if half of our elected policymakers are coming from a law background, why would you be surprised when they fight more for the rights of the rich than yours?

I wouldn't say its a symptom if the profession necessarily. Not all lawyer protect the assets of the rich. Many are mediators, researchers, educators or public defenders. Obama was an educator I believe.

This is more of a class problem. These ppl have educations that were worth more than the average Americans house...they've spent most of the early adult years in prestigious spaces...they end up in the top 25% in their first few years of jobhood..... most these people will have nothing in common with the average American by the time they officially become a lawyer. Relating to us would require a concerned effort, with little benefits. But getting this shmoney is easier :yeshrug:

I thought Obama's previous occupation was community activist. :ohhh:
he mostly practiced voting/civil rights law, he forced illinois to stop ignoring the federal motor voter law. also he represented slumlords to get them off the hook for having buildings with poor maintenance or broken utilities, that part didn't make it into any of his books lol.

plenty of other successful asian countries don't take that path, LKY was an attorney. :yeshrug: i thought of singapore right away cause american money mostly worships lawyers/statesmen, but your post reminded me how theirs has scenes honoring stuff like education and the arts.

It's one of his occupations he had before hand. If you're a lawyer that fights for poor people you're either considered soft or too unintelligent/connected to make it into a big law firm. Clarence Thomas for example was obsessed with making it big as a lawyer and never got over not being a big shot. It explains his greed and desire for more power and how he always sides with big business on the court and is all too eager to accept any 'gift' from wealthy white men.
