Anyway, breh this is a bad idea. Not what you're doing necessarily, just the "having no plan" part.

You'll try to fill your spare time by traveling. It'll be fun. But 6 months from now when your savings has gone from 100k to 75k, you'll be thinking "Ok I need to get back on my grind."

So then you'll tighten your belt, because you're a naturally thrifty person. Walking around aimlessly will be fun for about a month, then you will get bored, then you'll realize I dun goofed.

So then you'll look into these "business opportunities" you mentioned. I'll just and let you figure out why that's a bad idea.

Then you'll try to look for another job paying the same as what you had in DC, only you won't be in DC you'll be in LA. And, well... you won't find it. So you'll compromise. You'll tell yourself, "It's all good this is the south I don't need that level of earning out here ." So you'll take a job making 55k but it's cool cause you have your family and because 55k goes much further out there.

And that'll be cool for a couple months... until you realize why you moved to DC in the first place. That's right. Ambition is going to bite you in the ass. You're going to realize that you wasted the last 10 years of your life building a career, only to throw it all away so you could move back home. You're gonna be surrounded by the failures from high-school who never had the gumption to leave like you did. You're going to realize... I fukked up.

Anyway, this is all hypothetical but lemme give you some advice. If you're dead-set on leaving DC then leave DC, but don't go back, go forward. Isn't there somewhere other than back home where you've wanted to live?

DC is a bland, stale and soulless city full of type A professionals. People aren't real. People are real siddity here. It's hard to make real romantic connections. It's hard to meet real people in terms of just friendship. Everybody is about their career, networking and advancing. Mostly because people in DC are transient by nature; in the city for college, graduate school, government job, campaign work, lobbying, politics. The idea is just to come here, get a career and bounce. So they could care less about anything that doesn't involve that. DC is a one trick pony town. Politics and government. Imagine if New York was full of nothing but, Wall Street people. No starving artists, musicians, writers, publishers, fashion models, night club owners, journalists and editors, engineers, programmers, architects, lawyers, other corporate employees. Just a city full of boring investment bankers. That's D.C. Cities like NYC and LA have people from all walks of life there.

He's still in position to do whatever he wants...... He didn't save all that money just to sit on it.... I don't know his age but I doubt he's in his mid to late 40s or anything like that...... Say what you want but it take balls to make major moves. It's easy to sit quietly and grow old never attempting to do something special. I'm glad I did what I did. Dude fukk napolean he is a clown ass. On the real I have known rich black folks who are business people and even they have admitted that they fell on their face 2 or 3 times when they were starting businesses.

I would argue most millionaires who started businesses didn't really make money until their 2 or 3 or more business idea.

Check this out. My parents are friends with a sista that was a millionaire 3 times. That sista got rich in the 80s. Lost it all in the early 90s. Got rich again in the late 90s. Lost it all after you 9/11. She got rich again and almost lost half of what she had in 2008.

I t takes serious balls to start your own stuff. So fukk what others have to say. You have to do what is best for yourself. As far as money that means nothing if you aren't happy. My brother in-law was making over 200k a year at GP but was unhappy as hell. He could buy all the cool shyt he wanted but was always on call and rarely got a chance to spend time with his wife and kids.

Dude did that for 10 years and quit that mess. He makes a quarter of what he made before and is happy as hell and not stressed out all the time.

For all of you who remembered, i'd been working in DC in the IT field for 10 years making good money. I had saved up a lot of money and I was tired of the DC work scene and decided to move to Louisiana to be near my family and maybe start a business. I made the move this past July. As far as the business, it was too risky, hard to find a good location and money just isn't flowing well here at all. Honestly you need a team of people (investors) to help you start a business if possible. It's a lot to alone, but possible. I still have aspiration of starting a business someday, but I'll wait til an opportunity presents itself instead of trying to force it.

After months of trying to start a business, I fell back on that and started travelling the world and the US. Went to Turkey, France and Germany, DC about 5 times and to Atl a few times. I been eating and spending frivolously. With that said, I've seen my savings lose about 30k in the past 8 months. Most of that was for my business venture. Fukk it i guess. I still have a good amount left, but it's time to get back on the grind.

I start teaching middle school tomorrow, i'm taking a big pay cut, but at least I won't using my savings. I'm going to give this a try for a month or so. If it doesn't work out well, I'm might be heading back to DC to stack up some more money and go back at it.


Thing is, I was miserable in DC and I had to leave to see what was what. When you aren't happy you have to try something to change you thoughts and feelings. I still don't like the DC vibe, but I might have to go back for the money.

That's the spirit you need to have.... Nothing is wrong with failing, the fact that you made an attempt is a big Win in itself....

I was in NYC for 10 years before moving to DC last summer, this post makes me because it's real shyt. I've already told my family I'm leaving this city in 2016. It's a good city but no way I can be here anything but short term
