moss was washed at 33 ...... T.O. was was a league touchdown leader at 33 a all pro at 34 and a boarder line pro bowler between 35 to 37

T.O. being more of a big play threat at 36, 37 then most receivers in their prime's:russ:

TO’s longevity/aging was really impressive. He was about to have an 1,000 yard season in 2010, when he turned 37, but he tore his ACL with a couple games left. I remember that huge game he had that year against Cleveland.

It’s not quite as drastic as RBs, but WRs often decline dramatically over a year or two as well. They lose the ability to get that separation.

Before the injury, it looked like TO had possibly been aging better than any other WR except for maybe Charlie Joiner, and of course the GOAT, who is an anomaly and in his own category.

I think it was against Pittsburgh that TO balled out

There hasn’t been a good argument for anyone else as the best receiver since roughly 1995. The statistical gap between Jerry and everyone else is way too big to ignore. It’s like comparing Gretzky on points all time or Mariano all time on saves.

No receiver is even within 40 career touchdown catches of Rice.

Emmitt Smith is the only player at all within even 45 total touchdowns of Rice and he’s 33 back himself.

Larry Fitzgerald is 2nd all time in catches and he’s 117 back, which is 8 more than he ever had in a single season. There’s only 25 single season performances in league history with more catches than that, so the gap there on catches is one of the most statistically impressive seasons in league history’s worth.

Larry is 2nd all time in receiving yards but he’s still 5,403 yards back of Jerry there too. Rice is 6,900 yards ahead of TO who is in 3rd place and about 7,600 yards ahead of Randy Moss who is in 4th place.

That’s all with Rice losing 4 games to a work stoppage the year he caught 22 touchdowns and he still came back to make a few pro bowl teams and an all pro team as old as 40 even after tearing his ACL at 35 which basically cost him the entire 1997 season.

How do you compete with that?
