The US Marine Corps, known for turning out some of the military's toughest warriors, is studying how to make its troops even tougher through meditative practices, yoga-type stretching, and exercises based on mindfulness. Marine Corps officials say they will build a curriculum that would integrate mindfulness-based techniques into their training if they see positive results from a pilot project. Mindfulness is a Buddhist-inspired concept that emphasizes active attention on the moment to keep the mind in the present.

Facing a record suicide rate and thousands of veterans seeking treatment for post-traumatic stress, the military has been searching for ways to reduce strains on service members burdened with more than a decade of fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. "Some people might say these are Eastern-based religious practices but this goes way beyond that," said a Marine Corps trainer. "This is not tied to any religious practice. This is about mental preparation to better handle stress." The experiment builds on a 2011 study involving 160 Marines who were taught to focus their attention by concentrating on their body's sensations, including breathing, in a period of silence.

US Marines Meditate, Practice 'Mindfulness' - New study could overcome stress and suicide rates

At the end of the day they're still war criminals.

if it decreases their stress, gives them clearer minds, and helps them recover from injury with yoga then :wtf: is the problem? meditation has a long and rich usage in warrior cultures across the world and its about time that our army invests in internal reflection.

your attempt at a point is irrelevant; their warrior culture could revolve around raping all of your blood relatives specifically and it would be a 'warrior culture' still. I'm not glorifying anything so

I was joking. It's a very good thing.

They started introducing elements of stretching and yoga (planks) when I first got in. It introduced me to some good shyt but I didn't really got to far into it while I was in. It was good to mix that in there with the calisthenics, running, weight lifting, and MCMAP.

I was thinking that it might be a good thing to end and begin a day of basic with. I understand theres an appeal/use to "GET UP YOU MAGGOT TIN CAN FAGGIT TIME TO GO GO GO" but starting the day with some reflection is :wow:

Uh this will actually make them MORE deadly truth be told. If people only knew how their lives could be enhanced by taking 10-15 minutes out of their day to meditate, the world would be a far better place. Less stress, less prone to anger, more focused. Hell you even sleep better.
