US Mayors Resolve Not To Pay Hackers Over Ransomware Attacks

The resolution was adopted at the U.S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting, which took place late June and early July in Honolulu. "The United States Conference of Mayors stands united against paying ransoms in the event of an IT security breach," the resolution reads. This could give city leaders across the US some leverage against hackers. The 227 mayors who attended the meeting agreed to adopt the resolution, but the US Conference of Mayors represents more than 1,400 cities with populations over 30,000.

digital currency is not untraceable. It's most effective when doing dirt that doesn't garner resourceful attention, like holding municipalities hostage

Yeah I'm not sure on the untraceable part. I don't know much about blockchain, but isn't that what makes bitcoin transactions anonymous?

initially anonymity was the claim to fame, including it being an alternative to various payment systems in any country
But now there're efforts to integrating it in the very payment systems that it was suppose to circumvent, while having too many unique indentifiers to setup a wallet, recieve payments and products, and convert to other digital currency/regular payment services

It's just another way to pay for services
