To play devils advocate,

I did read that Russia at one point tried to join NATO and the Obama admin blocked it. I don’t remember why exactly, but the “deal” was supposedly that Russia will not attempt to join NATO as long as no surrounding countries join NATO…

Then sometime after, countries started to join NATO (I think) and when Ukraine decided they wanted to join thats when Russia invaded.

At least, thats what I heard/read. Not saying it’s true, but having Russia surrounded by NATO is not a good look for Putin. I doubt Russian citizens would mind though… they're not fans of dude either but it’s a dictatorship.. same shyt Trump/Musk wants over here
