Usher, JD, Killer Mike promoting opening accounts at Black Owned Banks

Atlanta based rapper/civic leader Killer Mike jump started Black History Month in Atlanta alongside Usher, Jermaine Dupri & more, by encouraging the support of local, Black owned banks.



Mike hit the net this morning with the following plea:

We are gonna be opening accounts there and we encourage all of u too do the same! U can keep ya big bank account and use this one as a Savings or you can bring the whole operation. What ever u decide make sure at least 1 account is with a black bank turning that dollar in our community!

Mike’s request was heard by several in Atlanta’s entertainment community and they all joined forces to open accounts at Atlanta’s minority owned Citizens Trust Bank.

I personally spoke with Killer Mike after the event and one thing that he wanted ALL to know is that Citizens Trust Bank may be small but they’re 95 years strong! Many of businesses on the Southside of Atlanta were built by loans from the nearly 100 year old bank.

Citizens Trust Bank is located at 75 Piedmont and is planning to expand it’s location soon. You can open an account for as little as $5.00 to start.

I opened my account there the week after I got back from the Million Man March anniversary. Felt so good being in there . Sadly I been with BoA too long to cancel them fully and Citizens doesnt have a ton of locations so I can't completely go to them 100% yet.

I like Mike a lot, but sometimes I really think he puts too much faith in a system never meant to benefit us. I hope Sanders isn't playing the homie like all these other politicians.

My Dad has been banking there for years, I used to bank there..I been thinking about going back, but I'm with Wells Fargo now and you're right the lack of locations can be tough but gotta salute em. My fiancée & I might buy a house with their financing

yea I went to the one on Cascade to open my account. I dont use cash, BUT if theres an emergency I dont want to have to scramble to be able to access money. I just use my account as a vacation fund.

I already put money in Citizen's Trust, there aren't really locations in Cleveland, so the money is there accruing a little bit of interest, but I still have felt the need to invest in Black business.
Imagine if Black entertainers, athletes, and business owners all kept their money in Black banks, or helped found new ones?

Been fukking with CTB for years. My moms made me open up my first account there back in the day and I've had it since. When she stayed in the A she would go out of her way to drive to the one on Cascade just to bank with them. She was a little too shook to go to the one by the West End Mall.

When I was getting my business off the ground I was over drafting on the regular and CTB was the only one of my accounts that would actually work with a nikka. Chase and BOA used to make me feel like a criminal and I walk into CTB and feel like family. They stayed letting me slide on the fees when I was fukked up
