Like the title states, I have an external that was used for my mac but now got a windows. I put a lock on the hardrive too. So when I plug it in to my pc it prompts me to enter password which I do. Usually when that happens on the Mac, I would get the HD icon to appear on desktop and I can use it, but on PC I don't get anything appearing on Devices and Drives.

Nothing really important on the HD if I cannot get it to work, any idea how to format it so I can get it work on PC?

Thanks brehs

It's encrypted you have to unlock before it shows up in devices and drives

I did that though. when I plug it in the pc I get the same prompt I would get in the mac, to unlock it. I enter the password but nothing appear. on the Mac the drive would appear. that's my issue

If you are on windows 8 or 10 type in 'disk management' in the non desktop mode(metro) for 8 or in the search box on the task bar for 10. You should be able to see your HD and allow windows to recognize it and/or format it, if it needs that for it to work.

Find a Mac
Plug in ext HDD
unlock ext HDD
Transfer Data to the Mac *temporary
Reformat ext HDD in Disk Utility using the FAT 32 file format.
Transfer Data back to reformatted HDD.
You should now be able to use on both OSX and PC.
Once everything is in place, if you want to only use the ext HDD with pc.
Transfer data to PC, go to disk mangangement reformat to ntfs, and then move data back to reformatted ext HDD
Good Luck Homie
