07/20/25
Lance Allen, the Republican nominee for the Stonewall District seat on the Frederick County Board of Supervisors, has officially withdrawn from the race following three shoplifting charges being brought against him last week.
Allen, a Stephenson resident, submitted a candidate withdrawal form to the Frederick County Office of Elections on Wednesday, according to Frederick County Voter Registrar Rich Venskoske.
Allen did not immediately respond to a request for comment on his decision to drop out. He also has not commented on the charges against him.
He is facing three Class 1 misdemeanors for allegedly shoplifting over $460 worth of items from two Martin's grocery stores in Frederick County on three separate occasions.
Court records indicate he allegedly used a bonus card at self-checkout without scanning or paying for items.
The incidents reportedly took place on May 10, May 29 and June 20, just days after the June 17 Republican primary, which Allen won.
$90 on May 10, $224.63 on May 29, and $149.12 on June 20.
.Each shoplifting charge against Allen is a Class 1 misdemeanor, carrying potential penalties of up to 12 months in jail and a $2,500 fine
The Winchester Commonwealth's Attorney's Office has been appointed as a special prosecutor in the case. A status hearing on the charges will be held Sept. 24 in Frederick County General District Court.
Allen bested Joe Brand in the GOP primary, 336 votes to 222 votes, and was running unopposed on the Nov. 4 ballot.
He focused his campaign on issues such as school overcrowding, local business growth and holding developers accountable.
In 2023, Allen ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination in Virginia's Senate District 1.
