The thing is, he NOT dumb when it comes to politics. They've established that he's pretty much a genius with election law. He's lucking into things, but It's not really "dumb luck".

Really dope show. Last week's episode was absolutely phenomenal.
Tom James had a line about not endorsing anyone yet, because he felt that a hero was needed. Richard pretty much falls into that category after saving lives and exposing corruption in back to back weeks. He'll probably pull off something incredible next week as Lt. Governor as well.
A season ago - Jonah's uncle also made that
comment about how he could make him president too

I don't think a show like this would let a pure good guy "luck" into being president. My prediction is that somehow Richard has been secretly undermining all of the other candidates so that he can "innocently" take over, and the show ends with Selina figuring it out as Richard is elected president.
