Vevo is getting ready to fill a major gap in its catalog: The music video platform announced a licensing deal with Warner Music Tuesday, which will allow it to carry videos from Warner artists like Bruno Mars and Charli XCX. The deal represents a major step for Vevotowards the launch of its own paid subscription service.

“We’re excited to partner with Warner Music and bring their artists’ content to life through our web and mobile experiences and across a range of our programming,” said Vevo CEO Erik Huggers. Warner Music Group CEO Steve Cooper added: “We’re pleased to have built a flexible and mutually beneficial relationship that will bring additional creative and commercial possibilities to our artists and songwriters.”

Vevo launched back in 2009 with music from Sony and Universal, which both own a significant stake in the company. Warner was for years the lone hold-out, but both companieshave been busy negotiating a deal for months.

The deal that both parties have struck now is unique in that it only gives Vevo the rights to distribute Warner’s videos on its own platforms, including its website and mobile apps as well as its TV apps. Warner is still controlling distribution on third-party platforms like Facebook and YouTube, where Vevo currently generates most of its views.

Vevo has long tried to gain some independence from YouTube, and has in recent months relaunched its website and apps across TV and mobile devices. Later this year, Vevo aims to launch its own subscription service. The company hasn’t released many details on that service yet, but it will likely feature ad-free viewing, offline playback and exclusive content.

This is HUGE...and VERY DISTURBING...... :ohhh:

this means VEVO has finally completed it's ultimate goal of being able to secure content from all three majors (sony, universal , warner)

in it's effort to become it's own subscribtion based content provider ever since it began as a "partner" of Youtube for all these years...

doubt if it will be able to become a "threat" to Youtube....

but it will definitly do more HARM than HELP to the artists signed to the labels whom already been having difficulties securing royalties from the Vevo/Youtube partnership...

it's a damn shame seems like every month we got a new streaming subscription service on the scene.......just more shyt to pay for :mjcry:

oh lawd...they done NETFLIXed the Music Game .... :noah:

Nobody will pay money for a Vevo subscription

never say never .... :mjpls:

you have to keep in mind...VEVO is company that both Universal and Sony own major stakes in ....matter of fact one of its founders is Doug Morris the former Universal CEO and current Sony Music Chairman...

they have HUGE LEVERAGE in this industry.....the reason why VEVO was created and was able to "force" Youtube into partnering up with them

was the fact that Doug threatned to pull all Universal related content off Youtube if it didn't "break bread" with the Major Labels in regards to it's ad revenue......

so VEVO became that "collection agency" for all streaming content related to artists under the VEVO banner...

it could result in VEVO having exclusive content that other services (tidal, spotify, apple) are not able to have access to in an effort to gain subscribers

not saying that this will ultimatly work ...but obviously VEVO has confidence in being able to accomplish this now that it has ALL THREE MAJORS on board :whew:

obviously they made WARNER an offer they couldn't refuse :manny:
