Two men shot at Oakland Park auto parts business
Detectives say robbery was the motive behind a shooting in Oakland Park that sent two men to a hospital Monday afternoon.
A car with an unknown number of occupants pulled up to CAD Auto Parts, 2935 NW 17th Terrace, about 1 p.m., sheriff's spokeswoman Dani Moschella said. Two men got out of the car and walked into the business.
Using a gun, the men threatened a third man who had been inside the office, Moschella said. The victim got hold of the gun and shot one of the would-be robbers; the victim was also shot.
The suspect vehicle fled. Arriving deputies found the two wounded men outside; one had injuries that were potentially life-threatening, Moschella said. Oakland Park Fire Rescue took the wounded men to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, where they remained Monday night.
No one at CAD Auto Parts could be reached by phone.
Three hours after the shootings, the business, southwest of West Oakland Park Boulevard and Interstate 95, was still barricaded from the public as detectives awaited a search warrant, the sheriff's office said.
"We've been here 30 years and we've never had a problem," said Greg Dail, owner of Expert Hydraulics, a business across the street from the shooting scene. "I heard about four shots, and then a pause, and then I heard more shots." A few minutes after Monday's gunfire, Dail said he saw people being taken away on stretchers.
Detectives from the sheriff's robbery team and violent crimes unit are investigating the shooting. Investigators are looking for a dark gray or black, newer model BMW and at least one other suspect, Moschella said.
