Who would have thought a drag race between a Tesla Model S electric sedan and a 2013 BMW M5 would be a close one? Not many people would but that’s exactly what happened when automobilemag.com contributor Ezra Dyer pitted these two luxury sedans against each other at Gingerman Raceway in western Michigan. In this impromptu drag race, both vehicles had to go from 0-to-100-mph. Let’s compare them. The 2013 BMW M5 uses a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engine with an output of 560 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. It has a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. The EPA said that the car has a fuel economy rating of 14/20 mpg (city/highway).

On the other hand, the 2013 Tesla Model S Performance is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor rated for 416 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. It has lower power than the BMW but its motor instantly produces its torque while the M5′s torque band peaks at 1500 rpm.

Supporting the Tesla’s electric motor is an 85-kWh lithium-ion battery that the company believes will result to a driving range of about 300 miles per charge. There’s not much difference between the two in terms of price and weight. The BMW M5 has a sticker price of $106,695 (after destination) and has a weight of 4387 lbs. Meanwhile, the Tesla Model S Performance has price tag of $102,270 and weighs 4640 lbs.

On some of the Bimmer Forums they're throwing a fit about this

Saying Tesla got a slow roll on him before launch

and that the M5 wasn't using launch control properly

People must be furious. Car looks really impressive on paper I had no idea it had that type of output. I've started to see M5's and M6's pop up around the city. Did they ever figure out the new fuel pump issue?

Yeah supposedly they replaced the fuel pumps and are delivering the M's to clients.
I saw one so far and I really wish I didn't see it.
Some dude drove by me in Newark in a white M5 and he completely fukked it up.
He had a color matched wheel package
on it and it looked tacky as fukk.
Made it look like if he turned the steering wheel slightly, he'd rub. Cause the wheels were abnormally huge. :snoop:
Suprising how just a change of wheels and rubber can either make or break a car's look.
Exhaust note still sounded :noah: tho.

I would still take the BMW. The Tesla is nice but I just don't have confidence in the technology yet. Maybe when it has been tested and proven but not right now.

I could understand if you said you don't want to mess with it because of lack of charging stations but tech wise they are good.

Maybe so, but until I know someone has done a long term test on one of them I can't mess with it. BMW all day long for right now. Give them a couple of years to work the bugs out of them.

They already had a couple of years and another car and honestly if you waiting for somebody you know to cop one its probably going to be a minute lol. I would love to cop one of those and a Karma(looks are awesome) but shyt you can't go wrong with a BMW either. That new i8 is a problem too.
