Video Game Sociology: What's the Demographic of Your Friend's List Look Like?

Just an observation


I have 219 people on my PSN Friend's List

Coli Gamers: 60%
Family/Friends in RL: 5%
Virtua Fighter Players: 5%
Destiny Players: 10%
Rainbow Six Players: 10%
Misc. Players Added: 10%

I'd say the majority of the gamers I add are black... I'd say 80 to 85% of my list is black


I tend to avoid the wanna-be cool white kids that try and act like they interact with black people outside of PSN/Xbox Live/Steam (whatever it is). I've had to check some dudes on my list who have tried to slide in that occasional 'nikka' trying to be down during game sessions.

I just tell em straight up, "You sound awkward and lame as hell saying that, stop it". Kind of made me realize that gaming pits all kinds of people together who wouldn't normally interact with one another outside of the digital space. It's almost like a live interactive view of #WhitePeopleInTheCommentSection

How'd you come up with your percentages? This just off hand or you have some sort of legit calculations of them?

I believe I have near 200 now. I'm sure most of my list are black. Will have to look everything else over to breakdown much further.

I find this to be true as well. I have a ton of Coli people on my list, but I've only played/talked to a few. Mainly the brehs who played BF4 and fighting games.

I also only mainly spoke to and gamed with folks that play fighting games. A grip of my list is from coli/sohh, tho some are now obsolete and shyt. Some from a few other gaming/hip-hop message boards. Among all the people on my list, there's like only like maybe 5-6 cats that I've played in more than 2 different series of games and legit only about 3 online listers that I've played with moderately/consistently across more than two genres of games/series.

@GoldenGlove, you're actually 1 of those 3, as in the pushing 10 year history of PSN gaming on my end, I've played you in Tekken, VF, SF, SC series, LBP and Uncharted. Only 2 other cats I know on my list I've played in as many or more games, @Mowgli (SF, MVC3, VF, Tekken, Assault Android Cactus) and the only other 1 is/was a coli/sohh poster, @Kodie (whom essentially retired) that I've played in pretty much all the fighting games, LBP and a few others and is one of only 2 coli posters I've met and played games with in person (the other being @xiceman191, whom ironically isn't even on my buddy list yet; met at Evo this year).

Only other buddy lister that falls into such criteria is a friend I knew offline first that we game in person as well as occasionally online in a number of games.

Funny thinking about all this and that there's a few of ya'll that I've actually gamed with for going on 10 years now.

Most the people in my friends list are coli nikkas, elite gamers I keep around to join competitive games and a small Sub minority of casuals that I mentor or were so amazed by my skill they wanted to be my friend.



I try to keep the number of cacs on my friends list to a minimum unless they're elite gamers or people I've vetted through coli . I'd say most my 200 plus friends list is non white with as many black people as I can find.

Working in corporate America around a bunch of cacs and having an asian wife you gotta surround you're personal activities with as many of your folks as possible so you don't lose yourself to foreign ways

I was like... "aaaaahhh, I'm straight". His boys started getting at him for how corny he sounded. Nah, I don't want to be your friend

Yup. I usually justry accept requests but yea some of them siege requests from annoying cac kids and bytch boys is annoying.

But probably the worst is when you add a brotha then go to a party chat and you got a dude sounding black talking moist in a party chat with his friends. Embarrassing.
