So I was watching Black Mirror last week and I came to the realization that video games could be used as therapy, especially VR.

You have a fear of heights, play a really terrifying VR game that uses ridiculous heights

You have a fear of spiders, play a really terrifying VR game with spiders in it, etc., etc.,

I have my own health issues that I've been dealing with, with pills. Maybe video games are the way?

Thoughts and opinions?

Yes indeed. I can definitely see it being used for therapy in a ton of different situations. It's already accepted as a stress reliever for a lot of people. I would imagine VR could create a safe atmosphere to expose a person to simulated height, animals, water, darkness, the opportunities are endless. I'd imagine it has a ton of educational potential as well. What about handicapped people that can't experience some regular mundane activities. VR could provide a paralyzed person the experience of scuba diving. VR is more exciting for everything BUT gaming.

I'm really interested in video games helping with bipolar, depression, addiction, and extreme anxiety (some things I personally have to deal with).

I wonder if games can help me? :jbhmm:

I might write an academic paper on this. I love games, and if they have a health benefit, there's a lot to say.

I could even use the lab at my place of work to run studies. This could be interesting :jbhmm:
