A 43-year-old white male said he was brutally assaulted by three black men after he said he declined to talk about Michael Brown.
David Autry told TV Station KMOV he was riding on a MetroLink light-rail vehicle at 10 p.m. Monday when a man asked to use his cell phone and then asked for his opinion on the Michael Brown case.
Autry told the station he replied he hadn't thought much about it, and the answer led to a violent confrontation. A cell phone video taken by another passenger in the back of the vehicle recorded the violent interaction.
The footage shows a young black male in a red shirt and hat scream at the victim sitting in a seat and then begins punching him.
Another man in a gray shirt also punches him as the victim tries to cover his body. The suspect in red then kicks him and they get off the bus.
I think it was disgusting that no one (helped).
Autry was assaulted about a dozen times. He had multiple injuries on his face but declined medical treatment, the station reported.
The person who shot the video is heard laughing after seeing what occurred. No one else on the light-rail tried to stop the attack.
"I think it was disgusting that no one (helped)," he told the station. "People were sort of laughing and smiling about it. No one offered to help and no one attempted to call 911."
Police did not return messages seeking comment from the Daily News, but told the station they are searching for three suspects in the incident.
The victim created a GoFundMe page on Saturday and hopes to raise $5,000 for a motorcycle so he does not have to take public transportation. He also said he will donate some of the proceeds to local victims of violent crimes.
"I can't say much right now folks but I know the police are making progress in this case. Thanks so much for all the support!" He wrote on the page Saturday night.
The shooting of Michael Brown, 18, sparked a lot of racial tensions when a white officer named Darren Wilson shot the teenager last August in nearby Ferguson, Mo. A grand jury declined to indict Wilson on charges.
