For whatever genius Vince has brought to pro-wrestling, perhaps his most underrated skill is picking commentary talent.

Not everyone can be a commentator, and those that can't, often fail horribly.

Gorilla Monsoon - former wrestler turned GOAT commentator
Jesse Ventura - see above
Bobby Heenan - maybe he was an easy choice, but still was a manger/wrestler before

Lawler - was still an active wrestler, but Vince brought him in and made him a commentator. Prime Lawler is untouchable on the mic

Macho Man - had a short stint, but was very good as a converted commentator

Taz - who EVER saw that one coming??? Turning Taz, ECW's human suplex machine, into a commentator? :what: But it worked and he became one of the greats and gave Taz far longer career than he would've had.

Byron Saxton - another former wrestler going absolutely NOWHERE, now turned commentator, and probably the future of WWE commentators.

Booker T - who would've ever saw Booker T in this position? Not only a commentator, but a very good panel host.

Otunga - he's not great, but he is good when he was on the RAW pre-show.

JBL - he's been better in the past, but whoever saw Hawk Bradshaw as a commentator

:what:Cokeboy has been forcing Michael Cole's lukewarm, middle of the road, mediocre, non-memorable horse shyt upon us for twenty years. He's awful at finding good commentary. He's fired Jim Ross fifteen times.

Gorilla was part of the group that owned the company with Vince's father. He was down by law. Ventura was retired by injury and was readily available. Heenan's talent could be recognized by a blind retard. Lawler has dirt on Vince. Macho only did commentary because McMahon was trying to force him into retirement. Taz was shyt. Saxton is Michael Soul. Booker is bad. Otunga...

Otunga - he's not great,
Right.

but he is good
Wrong.

And Jobber Bullshyt Layfield should ride a FLYING GOAT to the BALL GAME and suck all the Cubs' and Indians' dikks, MAGGLE.

Sometimes.

Cole could probably be better if he didn't have Vince in his ear and wasn't doing by-the-guideline commentary... he's shown that before. He actually fell into a good pocket on SD when he was with Taz, and there was that Network event in Japan that he called last year. It's just different when he doesn't have reins on him.

Monsoon was good, but he had his detractors too... let the old school smarks call it, he was the worst announcer all thru the 80s and 90s (check the Observer awards). He was best when paired with someone to argue with. There's not a time I remember him being good that doesn't involve Heenan or Ventura.

Ventura was perfect, especially once he got to heel out. IMO, the best heel commentator ever, by a mile.

Wasn't crazy about Macho on commentary... it's about the only thing I don't think he did well.

JR of course was great, and once he got teamed up with Lawler, it was the best combo in years.

Vince usually gets it right in giving wrestlers with good mic skills a chance to do commentary tho'- but not all of them can make the transition. Superstar Billy Graham was awful. JBL isn't bad to me- I think he's a heel commentator in an era where no one else is.

people of course are going to bring up michael cole but dude is good at what he does

him and tazz made a great team

Vince has some misses here and there but you are right about choosing the right commentators

replace Macho Man with Mr. Perfect

macho man was not that good (I like him but TSC gives him way too much credit ), he would spew lines here and there and sounded like a fool some times

Vince and Lawler were a pretty good team as well
throw in Piper in the list of great talkers who just couldnt do commentary. He was just way too hype
