no they weren't.

My great grandfather was born in 1887 He was around his teens-20s 1910. Let that simmer.
Folks who were enslaved in their childhood years were still around.

slavery ended in 1865 unless he's afro-Brazilian ??
Emancipation proclamation was not a clean cut and dry end to slavery. If that was the case tons of black families/ people would have showed up in 1870 census but many are not even recognized still.

I was using my great grandfather as proxy of how close slavery is to us today. He was not born into slavery but his parents were and most people around that age were adults so technically 1910's was their generation.

And here we are 150 years past slavery and we still got skin bleaching and women straightening their hair because it's supposedly easier to manage, ain't that right @Vice Queen :cacpls:
