We're a long ways away from true virtual reality. Visual stimuli can only take us so far. I would say that touch would be where virtual reality gets real, literally. Then disable awareness which includes manipulating memory. The understanding of the human brain and technology both have to advance greatly before that's possible. That being said, what there is now will be potentially life-changing technology within the next few years.
