There was a population boom when a lot of skrong ppl flocked to western PA to get involved in the steel industry. All those tough steel workers have a bunch of kids and boom. You had a couple generations of serious athletes.

Nah its more nurture than anything. Just like how Jamaica with like 2 million people dominates track.
