ignorance is bliss
High quality fragrance are expensive for many reasons
Raw materials
Jasmine
Jasmine and its synthetic version are used in more than 80 percent of all women's perfumes.
But the real stuff is expensive.
It takes approximately 2000 pounds of jasmine flowers to produce one pound of oil and 8000 jasmine flowers to yield 1/25 ounce of the absolute oil (the most precious of the oils because it's so concentrated). Because of the enormous amount of flowers it takes to produce the oil necessary to use in fragrances,
the price of jasmine oil is extremely high
Oud
only 2 percent of agar trees produce oud, making it incredibly precious, and therefore, expensive.
Due to its rarity, high demand, and the difficulty of harvesting it, oud oil is one of the most expensive oils in the world.
At one point, its value was estimated to be 1.5 times of the value of gold, and it is sometimes referred to as "liquid gold."
Rose
1L of Centifolia Rose Absolute represents between 10 and 12 thousand euros per kilo. And it's not the only one that is prohibitively expense ! Iris or oud must undergo several years of conditioning before you can extract their essence. Rest assured, there are only a few
Neroli
Neroli is steam distilled, and its high cost is due to several factors. For one,
it requires one thousand kilograms (roughly 2,000 pounds) of hand-picked blooms to create a single kilo (2 pounds) of neroli essential oil. Harvesting occurs between April and early May.
Distillation is an incredibly long process, as farmers must wait at least five years before the blooms can be picked.
2nd reason
The Power of Blending
Blending is a crucial step in creating a perfume, and it's where the art of perfumery really comes into play. Master perfumers use a combination of science and intuition to blend different fragrance oils in specific ratios to create a unique scent. The world's most expensive perfumes often require thousands of hours of blending to get just right.
which blends into the third reason
Master perfumer
Becoming a master perfumer, a highly specialized and sought-after role, typically takes
at least 10 years of dedicated study and training.
There are only an handful of master perfumers in the world, any idiot can watch a tutorial on youtube, buy a few essential oils and conjure up a concussion but expensive fragrances are made by only an hhandful of perfumers in the world and their work requires skills which doesn't come cheap
