I went to Sayre middle school in Philly when it was a middle school. I went when in 96, I was 12 years old. my mom was supposed to get married, so we ended up moving to her fiancees house in the hood. Previously I went to all white schools in the suburbs.
People got arrested every day at Sayre.
People would bring guns to school because someone took their girl.
I remember seeing literally 100 people run and finally jump 1 person. Dunno what he did I was just glad I was not him.
3 days into the school year, I got into a fight with someone who randomly decided to choke me with one of those flexible tape measures during math class.
Got into another situation with someone who thought it would be funny to try and spray paint the back of my head.
Teachers fighting students was a more common than it should have been.
Philly really wasn't a gang city, but Sayre had 2 cliques of people that ran the school: Jamaicans and Muslims. Mind you half the people who claimed Muslim weren't really Muslim, they just started doing it so if they got into some shyt they had some one to have their back.
People got left back so much, I remember playing basketball with 8th graders who were 17-18 years old.
I got called white boy so much I started to believe it. I had adapt...I started purposely changing my voice and how I acted to get by. I could have easily kept falling and become like the other 75% of the school.
Shyt was pure dysfunction.
